Werner Wind has walked into more broken IT landscapes than most people see in a career.
What he finds is rarely a technology problem. It's a landscape that accumulated: an ERP here, a BI tool there, something Finance built in Excel, something Operations built for themselves. Each decision was reasonable at the time. Together they produce a company that pays for the same capability several times over.
The licence fees are the visible part, and the smallest. Underneath sit the redundant support staff on each side, the interfaces that have to be built and maintained twice, the software dependencies that collide when one system updates and the other doesn't. And the cost that never appears on an invoice: headquarters can't support the subsidiary's processes anymore, because the processes have diverged. You have people, and you still can't move them where they're needed.
His view on the fix is blunt. It doesn't start with buying anything.
